Comparisons between jazz musicians and athletes usually miss the mark, but pianist Oscar Peterson is a special case......An overnight success, Peterson became one of the most popular acts on Granz's Jazz at the Philharmonic tours. It was the beginning of one of the most prolific artist/producer relationships in jazz history. Granz made Peterson a cornerstone of each new label he founded or was involved with. from Clef to Norgran to Verve to Pablo. As Verve's house pianist in the '50s, he recorded with a who's who of jazz royalty, including Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Lester Young, Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins and Louis Armstrong.........
